The Mid-Autumn is a very important Chinese festival. It falls on the 15th day of August. A few days before the festival, everyone in the family will help to make the house clean and beautiful. Lanterns will be hung in front of the house.
On the evening there will be a big family dinner. People who work far away from their homes will try to come back for the union. After dinner, people will light the lanterns which are usually red and round. Children will play with their own toy lanterns happily.
At night the moon is usually round and bright. People can enjoy the moon while eating moon-cakes which are the special food for this festival. They can look back on the past and look forward to the future together.
I liked the Autumn Festival very much when I was a small girl, because I was with my family then.On the evening of August 15 of the lunar calendar, when the moon was brightest,we always sat together outside in our yard to eat moon cakes--eaten only on this occasion--and enjoy the beautiful moonlight.Mother would then tell me the story of the moon fairy Chang-o,who lived in a palace on the moon, with a jade rabbit for companion.I always imagined that I was the moon fairy whenever I heard the story. When I grew older, however,I was compelled to leave home for education in the city. And now I am living alone away from home.
The August moon only serves to remind me of the lost happy days I had with my family in the country.
Today is the annual Mid-Autumn festival, which is also our national traditional festival. On the night of the Mid-Autumn festival, the moon appears particularly round and bright. Our family plan to go to the square in the evening.
Coming to the square, my parents and I were expecting the moon. We all looked forward to the moon coming out early, but the moon was like a shy little girl hiding in the clouds. At that moment, the moon slowly turned away half way, slowly passing through a wisp of black smoke and rising into the sky. The golden moon is like a big moon cake. Then the moons colour became lighter and white, and it took off its golden coat and replaced it with a thin silver veil. It was like a white jade dish hanging in the sky, emitting a white light and crystal-clear. The soft moonlight spreads to the earth, and it is as if the universe is covered with a light gauze, illuminating the world of night. Looking at the beautiful moon sister, it is so kind and pure and beautiful. I looked up at my father and mother, and now I was able to raise our family to enjoy the full moon.
We all looked at the moon and smiled. I wish every family could be as happy as my home!
