当who用作疑问代词时，意为“谁”，在句中用作宾语或主语;whom是who的宾格，用作疑问代词或连接代词时，在正式文体中常作宾语，非正式文体中用主格代替。如果紧跟在介词之后，只能用whom;如果在从句中用作表语，只能用who，不能用whom。
who和whom的区别
1、指代对象不同
who和whom都只能指人，而whose通常指人，也可指物。
例句：The classroom whose door is broken will soon be repaired.
门坏了的教室会很快得到维修。
2、在从句中所作成分不同
①who在从句中做主语。
例句：The boys who are playing football are from Class One.
在踢足球的男生们是一班的。
②whom在定语从句中充当宾语，常可省略。
例句：Mr. Liu is the person (whom)you talked about on the bus.
刘老师就是那个你在公交车上交谈的人。
③whose在定语从句中做定语。
例句：He has a friend whose father is a doctor.
他有个朋友的爸爸是医生。
3、用法不同
当关系代词指人且在从句中作宾语时，whom可以替换为who，而whose没有这个用法。
例句：He asked whom（who） I'd told about his having been away
他问我把他曾离开的消息告诉过谁。
