One Thursday afternoon, when I was in Grade 9, a new boy came into my classroom. He was short and thin. He walked up to the teacher and told her, very seriously, that he was new. His name was Christian. He sat down, took a look at me, and then looked away. I didn’t think he was very nice and I was sure he wasn’t the type I would like to become friends with.
During that year, I didn’t talk to him much, but he smiled at me when our eyes met, always shyly. He never ate lunch with anybody, and he never talked to anybody but me.
But one day I joined those unkind kids who were making fun of him. We made fun of him though I thought it was wrong.
“Haven’t you got any friends?” a kid asked Christian, who had walked past us alone, head down.
“No, he hasn’t got any friends. He’s too stupid and shy,”I said. Then Christian looked up at me with the saddest dog eyes I had over seen. I felt very sorry at that moment.
That night, I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t get Christian’s face out of my mind. In the weeks that followed, he never met my eyes in class and never smiled at me. It was really hard for me to decide to write him a note asking him to forgive(原谅) me. But I thought I should.
The next day in class, I wrote him a note telling him how sorry I felt. About five minutes later, I turned and saw tears in his eyes. “You will never realize what your apology(道歉) has meant to me, Jimmy.” he said to me. “I hope we can become friends. ”
We had lunch together that noon and we had the best talk I had ever had. Over the years at high school, we were close friends.
When I think back, I realize that, if I had not apologized, I would never have known what a lovely person Christian was.
Apologies can really change your life, so never miss the chance to tell somebody you are sorry.

In the UK. Saturday evenings have always been a popular time for families to watch television together. One of the most popular programme genres is the talent show, partly because people of all ages are interested in it.
Early shows, like Opportunity Knocks (1965-1978), required people to vote (投票)for their favorite acts and performers, although in those days voting was done by postcard instead of by telephone, text, or over the Internet. Today, the success of television talent shows has reached a new level. Here are the UK's top three TV talent shows:
The X Factor In this wonderful singing competition, performers have to face a celebrity judge panel (名人裁判组)before the public vote. Many excellent singers became popular because of it. The show is now made all over the world, from China to Colombia.
Strictly Come Dancing—The programme is so fantastic that it attracts many celebrities. They team up with professional (专业的)dancers and come to the dance floor to win the title of Strictly Come Dancing Champion.
Britain's Got Talent — In this modern-day version (版本)of Opportunity Knocks, the public can go and choose from many kinds of acts, from dancing dogs to ice skating. The prize is to perform for the Queen in the Royal Variety of Performance.

Students at a primary school in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian Province were required to clean the school toilets to help them develop good habits. But some parents are strongly against the idea. They can't see the advantages of students doing such chores. They think that the school should provide students with a proper education, not the chance to be school cleaners.
In fact, parents, schools and society play an equally (同等地)important role in developing the character of students. It is good for schools to give students such tasks, because few of the students will do them at home. Their parents want them to do homework only.
In recent years, some parents will make mountains out of molehills when students are asked to do some chores in schools. Some complain about the teachers if their kids get hurt in schools; some even challenge the schools' teaching methods and management. As a result, many primary schools, especially those in big cities, do not let students join in outdoor activities during breaks, fearing that they might get hurt. This is bad for the development of students' best qualities.[:学,科,网Z,X,X,K]

When people talk to each other, write letters or make phone calls, words of the spoken form or the written form, can send any messages they want to pass on.
But besides words, do you know any other ways can use to communicate with people? Rich expressions on your face can be one of them.A smile on your face showed that you're happy. Tears in your eyes tell others that you are sad or excited. Body languages can do the same job. When you put your hand up in class, the teacher knows that you want to say something or you may have some questions to ask. You shake your head from side to side and people know you are saying "no" or refuse others' requirements. When you nod, people will understand that you're saying "yes" or agree to others' opinions or suggestions.
Other forms can also carry different messages. For example, a sign at the bus stop gives passengers instruction on which bus to take. The flag language made by soldier can pass a different orders. Sound from the school bell tells the students and teachers went to begin or end a class. A photographer can use the photos he has taken to tell others about what he thinks of the world around him. Music and films also can convey the feelings and the ideas of musicians the directors.
So next time when you see a piece of art or listen to some music, take it as communication with its creator and try to get the meaning behind it.
( )52.According to the passage you just need to______if you agree to others’ suggestions.
A. Close your eyes B. Put up your hand
C. Move your head up and down D. Shake your head from side to side

A. 掩饰 B.传递 C.克制 D.爆发
( )55.The best title for the passage may be______.
A. Spoken and Written Languages B. Forms of Communication
C. Facial Expressions and Gestures D. Suggestions on Communication

The Vieira family moved to the United States in 1981. At that time, they decided to stop speaking Spanish at home and only communicate in English. 56. Now the Vieira children are adults, and they sometimes travel to Spain to visit their family and friends. 57. Unfortunately this is common. When people move to new countries, they often leave their own customs and mother language behind. This is a mistake because there are many benefits to knowing more than one language.
One advantage of speaking more than one language is that you can communicate directly with more people around the world. You do not have to depend on others to talk for you, so you’re more independent.58.
Furthermore, speaking a second language also allows people to experience other cultures and customs more effectively. Local expressions, vocabulary, and even jokes can have a powerful effect on a person’s understanding of another culture.59. Finally, having more multi-language speakers improves relationships between countries. If people from different countries can communicate well, the world can become closer. Countries will then have more respect for each other and better understand each other’s problems.
The benefits of knowing more than one language are clear.60. It is very sad that many people don’t try to learn another language. It is even worse when people let themselves forget their mother language and become silenced.

It was 6:30 in the morning. But I didn't want to get up. It was my first day at a new school.
Although I had changed schools before, I was still worried. The other students at the new school have known each other. It is November, so they all have had friends already since September.
The school bell rang. I entered the classroom nervously. The teacher welcomed me and asked me to sit beside a girl named Annette. Everyone was friendly and wanted to be my first friend. I was surprised.
Then we started the lessons. Annette helped me find the pages and showed me what we were doing. It was the same kind of math I did at my old school. The reading book was different. It had new stories in it.
At lunch time, Annette asked me to stay with her in the line, so she could show me where everything was. She also introduced me to her friends and we ate lunch together.
In the afternoon, we had free reading time. I read with my new friends. I was glad to have met them.At the end of the day, we got homework and left school. What a great day!
