1、事情发生的概率不同
①happen多指发生意外事故,不幸的事。往往表示事情的发生带有偶然性,happen是一般用语。
例句:I dread to think what will happen in the case of a major emergency .
翻译:我不敢想在重大紧急情况下会发生什么。
②固定词组take place,意为发生,举行,多指举行活动,发生某事(可指发生好事或不好的事)。常指按计划“发生”,指必然会发生的事情。
例句:The election will take place against a backdrop of increasing instability.

2、词汇搭配不同
①take place表示“发生”,可与 happen 或occur换用,但其后面一般不接 to sb./sth.结构。
例句:The proceedings of the enquiry will take place in private.

②happen to sb./sth. 指不好的事情发生在某人(物)身上。
例句:We run enormous models on supercomputers; this is what I happen to do.

①take place 还可表示“举行某种活动”。
例句:The opening of the play will take place tomorrow night.
